Since September, I’ve been in Washington D.C. with the ANCA’s Capital Gateway Program. It’s been invaluable to come to the nation’s capital to take part in Hai Tahd activities while advancing myself professionally.
Recently, I was able to set up congressional meetings with local activists with the Armenian National Committee of Michigan to take part in grassroots lobbying. As a Michigan native myself, I am deeply proud that this contingency encompased first, second and third generations of Armenian Genocide survivors. What a great network of people with such determination and grit.
We had the chance to meet with congressional staffers and Members of Congress to discuss the Armenian Genocide legislation, only two weeks after the House Foreign Affairs Committee adopted the Armenian Genocide bill (House Resolution 106).
The Detroit Armenian community has much to be proud of in terms of its activism and its outreach. The National Journal wrote an in-depth story about our lobbying efforts and the impact future generations are having.
